Marc Aurel Pickel
Born on 12th December 1971 in Wilhelmshaven
Single, living in Kiel
Free-lance boat builder
Starting for Kiel Yacht Club (KYC)
Marc Pickel has been sailing from when he was a child. Following successful regattas in the Pirate, he gained extensive experience in big- boat sailing and was a core member of the Aerosail team, a high-level initiative of the former Daimler-Benz group in the 90ties to support the sailing sport.
After winning Kiel Week in 1994 and the same year’s Sardinia Cup as part of the ILC 40 “Astro” crew, Marc Pickel then switched to the Olympic Star boat at the end of 1995, but never turned his back completely on offshore racing. With various crew in the Star, he won a string of top-class regattas ranging from Kiel Week to a European Championship.
A boat builder by trade, Pickel continues with his freelance work parallel to his Olympic campaign. His skills are not only very helpful for the maintenance and repair during regattas, but he also used them by purposely building a Star boat for his team.
